We celebrate the K-pop girl band’s seventh anniversary by revisiting some of their most memorable moments

Blackpink’s been in your area for seven years! That’s right, the hugely famous K-pop girl band officially debuted on August 8, 2016, with two singles Whistle and Boombayah. Since then, the quartet, made up of Lisa, Jisoo, Rosé and Jennie, has taken over the world with their popularity, even becoming the most streamed female band on Spotify earlier this year.

The four girls are not only beloved by their legions of fans—who call themselves Blink—for their music but are also famous for their stunning on-stage dance moves and fashionable outfits. Here are five electrifying performances they’ve delivered over the years to help you get into the celebratory mood for Blackpink’s birthday.

1. 2022 MTV VMA

In their 2022 interview with 102.7 KIIS FM, Rose shared that one of her favourite live performances was at the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards. There, we saw the quartet perform their hit single Pink Venom. From Rosé’s vocals to Lisa’s energy, their performance definitely got fans talking. 

2. 2019 Coachella

In the same 102.7 KIIS FM interview, Jennie shared that their 2019 Coachella performance was “definitely one of the most unforgettable stages” for the group. Their energetic Coachella debut saw the quartet perform Kill This Love, stealing the show with their charismatic stage presence and perfectly executed choreography.

3. 2021 YG Palm Stage

The South Korean girl group stole the show at the 2021 YG Palm Stage with their fierce stage presence and energetic performance of Ddu-du Ddu-du. If that wasn’t enough, the performance also saw the girls dancing in a bed of water, with a row of fire in the background—literally lighting up the stage.

4. 2018 SBS Gayodaejun

Their performance at the 2018 SBS Gayodaejun was stunning, to say the least. There the quartet performed their record-breaking single Ddu-du Ddu-du and fan favourite Forever Young. The night also saw Jennie perform her first solo debut single, Solo. The girl’s charismatic stage presence and stunning vocals were truly unforgettable for many.

5. 2016 Melon Music Awards

Three months after the group’s debut, the girls performed a mashup of two songs—Whistle and Playing With Fire—at the 2016 Melon Music Awards. The first half of the performance saw the quartet showing off stunning white ensembles before changing into bold red and black outfits for a fiery finish. The mesmerising performance was posted on Blackpink’s official YouTube channel in 2016 and has garnered over 76 million views since.
