The K-pop girl group has the iconic Hong Kong actor and ‘Squid Game’ actress appear as surprising cameos in these curious movie-like music videos
K-pop sensation NewJeans—made up of Hanni, Minji, Haerin, Danielle and Haerin—have made a name for themselves in the intensely competitive South Korean entertainment industry with their catchy lyrics, exciting choreography and captivating videos. And their music videos for their latest releases, Cool With You and Get Up, which came out last night, captivated us with its two stars who carry the storytelling of the music video: Hong Kong screen legend Tony Leung, and South Korean model and breakout star of Netflix’s Squid Game Jung Hoyeon.
Jung appears as the main character in both videos, while Leung makes a cameo in the second video.
In Cool With You (side A), Jung is a lonely and seemingly invisible figure who can only witness the love she so desperately wants for herself. No matter how close she gets to the object of her affections (or obsession) he doesn’t seem to know she’s there. This is followed by Cool With You and Get Up (side B), in which Jung is finally visible to her amour, and is able to make happy memories with him. But is it all a dream?
Towards the end of the music video, Leung, as a silver-haired and mysterious figure with his signature electrifying Tony Leung gaze, steps out from behind Jung’s love interest and locks eyes with her. And all of a sudden, Jung seems to revert to being invisible once more. Sob.
