The Hong Kong actors are working together again almost two decades after Infernal Affairs
The movie trailer starring Hong Kong screen icons Tony Leung and Andy Lau’s highly anticipated 2023 film The Goldfinger has been released.
Marking the first collaboration between the actors since the Infernal Affairs trilogy wrapped up more than 18 years ago, The Goldfinger is directed and written by Felix Chong, who also helmed Infernal Affairs. The movie is set for release in cinemas on December 30.
The film reportedly has a production budget of HK$350 million and is said to be one of the most expensive films made in Hong Kong cinema.
Set primarily in the 1980s, The Goldfinger is a crime drama that follows the rise and fall of a Hong Kong conglomerate and its chairman Cheng Yi-yan, who undergoes a 15-year investigation by the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC). Cheng Yi-yan will be portrayed by Leung, and Lau will play an ICAC investigator.

The plot is reportedly based on the 1980s Carrian Group scandal—the Hong Kong conglomerate that, several years after its rapid expansion, suffered a spectacular fall from grace.
The announcement for the film was first made in 2021. In a press conference ahead of production in February 2021, it was revealed that Lau had believed Leung to be “the best choice” in playing his rival.
