The energetic Thai bartender lets us in on his favourite watering holes in the land of smiles where the locals go

Bangkok’s cocktail scene has never been more exciting. Even if the likes of award-winning bars such as Mahaniyom, and Tropic City don’t ring a bell, BKK Social Club—helmed by industry veteran Phillip Bischoff—surely will. Flying the Thai flag high on the international stage, the ritzy cocktail bar at the Four Seasons famously clinched The Best Bar in Thailand award at Asia’s 50 Best Bars 2023. Today, the Land of Smiles is a hotbed for newly minted bars chock full of talent, and fresh-faced F*nkytown is perhaps the most talked about bar at the moment.

During their Asia pop-up tour in Singapore at The Elephant Room, Tatler Dining caught up with Pae Ketumarn, F*nkytown’s group beverage manager, to suss out his favourite cocktail bars to have a drink at in Bangkok. Having cut his teeth at renowned bars like Shanghai’s Sober Company and Tokyo’s SG Club before his homecoming, Ketumarn’s recommendations are as insider as they get. Here are his recommendations in no particular order.

1. Alonetogether

“Alonetogether is a gem in the realm of jazz bars, presenting an array of excellent classic cocktails. The intimate space allows patrons to connect directly with the performers, which is great. The performers are literally an arm’s reach away from most of the chairs, adding to the allure of this unique and amazing venue.”

Its pet-friendly policy adds an extra layer of warmth to the already inviting atmosphere; I love bringing my young pup there.”
