Chairman, Westports Malaysia

The self-made billionaire is a logistics industry leader
Tan Sri G Gnanalingam

As a logistics industry leader, Tan Sri G Gnanalingam is responsible for establishing Westports Malaysia as one of the world’s top ports and one of the finest and best in the global cargo industry. Crediting Westports’ systems and technology for its success, he established Kelang Multi Terminal Sdn Bhd (now Westports) in 1994 and began container operations with only nine cranes in 1996. He quickly gained the majority of Port Klang’s box volume by offering lower tariffs and faster turnaround.

This has resulted in Klang’s meteoric rise and in the world pecking order of ports, Westports is today the 12th biggest in container traffic among all world ports (global leaders include Shanghai, Singapore, Busan, Jebel Ali and Rotterdam).
