Kal Joffres helps organisations discover solutions to business and social challenges

Kal Joffres is the CEO and co-founder of Tandemic, an innovation firm based in Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and the Philippines. Tandemic has helped businesses, governments and social enterprises including Unicef, the United Nations Development Programme, Standard Chartered, Microsoft and Danish firm Novo Nordisk to solve problems, find innovative solutions through design thinking and discover new growth opportunities. Some of the projects he has led include developing new ways to prevent diabetes, designing an improved education-delivery system for marginalised children and creating software for project management in the energy industry.

A Canadian who initially came to Malaysia to work with an investment company, Joffres co-founded Tandemic to come up with solutions to address real-world social and business challenges. His methods include experiential workshops to help people learn and apply design-thinking principles, and innovation programmes that help companies bring a new product or service to life.

Joffres is also the key architect of Makeweekend, the region’s largest series of makeathons—intensive workshops designed to result in new products. He also teaches design-thinking practice for global teams at California’s Stanford d.school. He is co-author of Design Thinking Toolkit as well as the Social Business Model Canvas, which is used in 80 countries and taught at influential learning institutions including the UK’s Oxford University and University of California San Diego.
