Danny Yip, owner and chef, The Chairman (Hong Kong)
Hong Kong’s Danny Yip, chef and owner of The Chairman, has been awarded the Icon Award – Asia 2024, the honour by Asia's 50 Best Restaurants that celebrates individuals who have made significant contributions to gastronomy whilst also, more importantly, using their platform to drive positive change. Under his leadership, The Chairman became the first Chinese restaurant to be crowned number 1 on the Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants list in 2021. In the same year, it also became the first Chinese restaurant to reach the top 10 in The World’s 50 Best Restaurants ranking. Of the accolade, Yip said, “This award is a tremendous honour, not just for me but also for The Chairman team. It serves as a motivator, consistently reminding us of the greater heights we can reach in the days ahead. Alone I can do so little, together we can do so much.”
