ISKL is a co-educational private, not-for-profit school with more than 1,700 students aged 3-18 years from over 60 countries. At ISKL, learning does not stop with academics but encompasses service learning, sporting, performance and co-curricular activities to develop well-rounded global citizens.

Curriculum: An international curriculum that combines leading North American educational frameworks with global best practice. In High School students have the flexibility to undertake the 2-year International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) or combine individual IB, Advanced Placement (AP) and High School Diploma courses.

Accreditations and awards: The International School of Kuala Lumpur is accredited internationally through the Council of International Schools (CIS), and in the United States through the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). It is Malaysia’s longest running IB World school and has been authorized to provide the prestigious International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) since 1989. In 2019, it won the prestigious International School Leader Awards in the category Initiative for Inclusion for its unique Life-Centered Education (LCE) program. 

Campus and facilities: Conveniently located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, ISKL’s state-of-the-art 26-acre campus opened in 2018, offering world-class facilities designed to incorporate the latest in teaching and learning concepts and features science, design and technology laboratories, dance and art studios, multi-sensory spaces, makerspaces, learning kitchens, libraries and collaborative learning spaces. The school’s indoor and outdoor sports complexes include basketball, volleyball and tennis courts, a climbing wall, regulation track, multipurpose pitches, and two gymnasia.


In addition to a 650-seat multi-purpose theatre, ISKL also boasts a separate Performing Arts Centre with a 700-seat Performance Theatre, an Atrium Amphitheatre, and future plans for a Concert Recital Hall and Black Box Theatre. ISKL is the first school designed to achieve the Green Building Index (GBI) Platinum rating in Malaysia, and services as a laboratory for the study of environmentally sustainable practices. ISKL has an active and involved parent community and provides  spaces for parents and volunteers to meet, from a Coffee Shop to parent lounges and dedicated Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) spaces.

Competitive advantage: ISKL's international curriculum delivers strong academic results which consistently outperform regional and worldwide averages. This is complemented by a valued-based educational philosophy which incorporates service learning and sustainability as integral components of school life. The flexibility of its curriculum creates global opportunities; in 2019 ISKL’s 159 graduating students received more than 400 acceptances from over 200 universities in 14 different countries spanning four continents.

ISKL students have access to extensive opportunities in the arts, music, sports and co-curricular activities, including cultural enrichment experiences and travel through the region for service learning and to compete with peer schools in performance, debate and sporting competitions. Students are also challenged by interdisciplinary education opportunities such as High School’s Global Action Program (GAP) and Middle School’s Malaysia Week program which combine service learning and outdoor activities throughout the region. ISKL is an inclusive school providing school-wide support to enable every student to fulfil their potential. Specialized support is available for students with learning differences and Life-Centered Education (LCE) program to meet the needs of students who have diagnosed intellectual or developmental differences.
