Ikan-Ikan

Local   |   $ $ $ $   |   Langkawi

Unwind to the magnificent view of the Andaman sea in a relaxed, traditional Malaysian home-inspired setting serving up delectable local favourites by professional staff.

SETTING

Tucked away on a secluded part of the island, the restaurant is a part of the Four Seasons Langkawi resort and is located within a 10-minute stroll or a quick cart ride from the resort’s lobby. Decorated in a nice luxurious island setting with close proximity to the beach, the restaurant has a very pleasant ambience that encourages diners to relax. The restaurant is perfectly suitable for big groups and small parties, especially families, where the friendly staff will offer complimentary colouring sheets for kids to preoccupy themselves with before dinner. There is also a kid’s menu with a decent variety, which is welcoming for juvenile eaters not used to the spices of Malaysian cuisine.

FOOD

Guests are feted to a veritable introduction to South East Asian cooking here and it shows with the signature Sulaiman Rasa platter. Consisting of prawn fritters accompanied by sweet chilli sauce, spring rolls and chicken satay, the quality of the dish is decent and tasty.

The main course of tulang rusuk panggang (beef ribs) may be slightly overdone on our visit but goes very well when taken with the accompanying oyster sauce seasoned vegetables and nasi minyak (oiled rice). A specialty of the restaurant, the rice comes with a medley of herbs and spices, essentially making it a briyani. It’s cooked with ghee, so it tends to the rich side of flavour but makes for an appetising base for the meal, on top of being delicious even on its own.

DRINKS

There’s a healthy variety of wines from various countries on offer here, including France, Italy, New Zealand and Australia. A decent list of tropical cocktails and healthier options such as fruit smoothies round out the drinks menu.

SERVICE

This area proved to be the restaurant’s strong suit, with the service of the waiters at an impressive level. The staff repeatedly checked on us, recommended dishes for our meal, carefully explained each one of the restaurant’s specialities and even inquired what we liked. Furthermore, they made our child feel at ease with their friendly banter. Warm, friendly smiles are commonplace here.

PRICE

As expected of the prices on a 5-star island resort, the bill for a party of three (two adults and a child) reached RM515 in total, which, all things considered, is still pretty high. With that being said, the restaurant has a lovely charm that will lull and relax would-be diners. It’s perfect for groups who like to share food, thanks to the nature of Malaysian meals.
