Quality Italian food backed up with great service awaits diners in this established and reputable Italian eatery.

SETTING

Award winning Prego remains a firm favourite when it comes to authentic Italian cuisine in the heart of KL town. Located in the Westin Hotel, the ambience is at once warm and welcoming with its vibrant colours and contemporary decor. An open kitchen flanks one side of the restaurant, in full view of diners seated on both levels, no doubt to work up their appetite and heighten their senses with the sounds, smells and sights emanating from there. Be it an intimate tête-à-tête or a social gathering among family and friends, dining at Prego’s is an enjoyable experience.

FOOD

Prego offers an extensive selection of both hot and cold starts that include gluten-free dishes as well as vegetarian ones. An antipasti platter is always a good choice when it comes to sharing starters and diners will not be disappointed with the generously portioned meat platter of spiced lamb sausages, beef salami, chorizos and bresaola.

A wide selection of pasta and risotto is available, with diners having the option of choosing the pasta type to match with their preferred sauce. Pizza lovers will be spoilt for choice when it comes to the different varieties of toppings available to choose from and will no doubt savour this quintessentially Italian dish that Prego is well-known for.

For the second main course, the menu offers both seafood and meat. Fish lovers will love the salt-crusted sea bass which is baked to perfection covered in salt. Surprisingly, it’s not overly salty as the skin comes off together with the salt crust and the moisture and flavours are well-retained in the fish. The lemon butter sauce adds a tangy, delightful taste to the briny flavour of the sea bass. For those preferring their meats dark, the Australian Wagyu tenderloin is a good choice. The premium 200 grams of well-cut meat is grilled evenly throughout and has a melt-in-your-mouth tenderness that’s enhanced with the natural jus sauce and a crunchy and flavoursome wild mushroom fogliatella side.

Diners would be spoilt for choice when it comes to dessert, as Prego has something for everyone. Try a cheese platter to enhance the savoury meal beforehand. The selection of two soft and two hard cheeses served with dried prunes, nuts and honey is well-balanced in texture and its flavours does not overwhelm the palate, making it a great way to round off the sumptuous meal.

DRINKS

Being part of a well-established hotel, Prego offers an extensive selection of beverages for all tastes. Its comprehensive wine list comprises labels from both old and new world vineyards, with a good spread across different grape varieties. There’s a natural emphasis on Italian wines. Grappas are also available as a great after dinner digestif.

SERVICE

Servers are friendly and attentive, while non-intrusive. Dishes are served and cleared promptly. Requests are attended to with a smile. The wait staff are also knowledgeable about the offerings on the menu and are able to offer appropriate recommendations on both the preparation and portion sizes.

PRICE

While the prices may seem high compared to other comparable establishments, it is justified when the quality of the food, the extensive offerings, the service and ambience of the restaurant are taken into account. Prego is also well-known for its Sunday Bubbalicious champagne brunch where diners get to sample an extensive buffet spread while sipping on free-flow of Moet and Chandon champagne or wines.
