WIP has a prime position just off the main ground floor entrance of the popular Bangsar Shopping Centre. It has been here for some time and obviously provides an agreeable venue that the residents around here love.

While contemplating the extensive menu, it’s advisable to order bar snacks such as bruschettas, chicken wings and satay while contemplating appetisers and mains. For mains, a good option includes the fattoush and hummus with pita bread, which is generous, tasty and healthy. A portion of avocado and mango salad has similar qualities.

The grilled t-bone steak is of a generous 400gm and served on a wooden board with a foil-clad baked potato with sour cream while the creamy horseradish sauce is a creative addition. For something fiery, order the chicken vindaloo to appreciate its tender marinated chicken breast and spicy gravy, which goes well with either buttered naan or briyani rice. Pizza, rice, noodles, seafood, lamb and chicken complete the savoury menu offerings.

In addition to the tiramisu, fresh fruit and Häagen Dazs ice-cream, there are a few more interesting desserts such as peanut butter panna cotta and salted caramel apple and guava tart. While tasty with premium ice-cream on top, the lava cake is served as a pudding rather than with the effusive chocolate fondant that most expect from this dish. The tropical pavlova is a fair rendition of meringue with rich cream and excellent fruit such as passionfruit and mango on top.

Drinking is an important component of a night out at WIP and there are various promotions from happy hour beers, wine and mojitos. WIP’s wine list is comprehensive including several Champagnes, sparkling wines, sparkling rosés as well as table wines. These wines originate from the main wine producing areas and there are 11 wines by the glass including a dessert wine from Houghton in Western Australia’s Swan Valley. Wines are listed as red and white and then via the grape variety including a few lesser-seen grape varieties such as Albarino, Gewürztraminer, Barbera, Corvina, Dolcetto, Carignan and Nero d’Avola.
