Nur Nadia SM Nasimuddin

Discovering a new generation of Malaysian online consumers, Nadia Nasimuddin kickstarted Portluxe, a new online platform for fashion retailing.

As if helming the Naza Hotel Management and NZ Diners, subsidiaries of the Naza Group of Companies, is not enough, the successful and beautiful Nur Nadia SM Nasimuddin has started a new venture into the luxury lifestyle industry.

Just weeks ago, Nadia launched Portluxe, an online retail platform for pre-owned fashion luxury branded items, to cater to a new generation of online-savvy consumers who are looking to clear out their wardrobe space.

Nadia says, “I always have trouble in finding extra wardrobe space and getting rid of old things and not everything can be donated to charity.”

She continues, “One day, I was complaining to my husband about it and that’s when we decided to start Portluxe.”

The phrase "one man's trash is another man's treasure" depicts Portluxe perfectly, as it is a platform that gathers pre-owned items and re-sells them to new owners. Right now, the online platform stocks a list of high-end fashion labels, which includes Hermès, YSL, Victoria Beckham, Chanel, Louis Vuitton and Fendi, gathered from Nadia and her family's personal wardobe.

Nadia says, "Right when we started Instagram (@portluxe), we received many queries about selling products on our site. We are slowly working through them to bring more goods to the consumers."

What makes Portluxe different from many other brick-and-mortar stores of the same nature is the work that goes behind authenticating the goods before selling them on the website (www.portluxe.com.my).

Nadia explains, “We work with a very well known company called Authenticate First, which is also recognised by eBay and PayPal, to verify the products we sell. So if there is any dispute about the authenticity, we can bring it to the agency to resolve the issue.”

On top of that, Nadia goes the extra mile to provide Portluxe’s own certificate of authenticity to further reaffirm the legitimacy of the goods sold.

For Nadia, this might just be the blue ocean of fashion retail business for Malaysia. An unprecedented business, which rises above the regular pre-owned designer retail stores, that will set a new benchmark to the local industry.

Nadia says, “The Malaysian market is definitely mature enough for online retailing. We have done research and it shows that almost 50% of Malaysians have done online purchases. It is the perfect time for Portluxe.”

For those who still aren't convinced about the products, Portluxe has also set up a showroom in Kuala Lumpur where consumers can book appointments in advance to view and test the items before purchasing.

It is her pursuit for the perfect shopping experience for her consumers that makes Portluxe a unique business.

Nadia explains, “One way or another, it is to create a hassle-free way of selling your clothes, bags, shoes and accessories online. At the same time, making discounted luxury fashion accessible to all because everyone deserves a dream wardrobe.”
