First order of business: watch your posture on the dance floor! Keep your shoulders back, your chin up and your smile ever-ready – there’s really no substituting these even if you do have the best moves in town.

Whatever happens, don't forget to relax, listen to the beat of the music and have fun. A little preparation beforehand doesn’t hurt either, so keep these basic but versatile dance moves in mind for an awkward-free Tatler Ball dance experience.

If you can walk, you can do the step touch. Just like it sounds, you start the move by stepping to the side with one foot, shifting your weight onto that foot.

Then, touch the other foot lightly on the ground next to the other foot. Repeat the movement to the left and the right all while swaying your body side by side.

Swaying left and right is easy enough, but it’s great to throw a little variety into your movements with a quick and easy step ball change.

To start, step on your right foot, transferring your weight onto that foot. Move your left foot behind your right, step lightly on the ball of your left foot while gently lifting your right, and then step back onto your right foot.

Repeat the step with your left foot and that's it!

Take a cue from the energy and excitement of hip-hop dance genre with the famous 2-step move, great for upbeat hip-hop or pop songs. Step to the side with on your right foot and kick back your left behind your right with a little bit of bounce. Step down on the other side with your left foot and repeat the movement to the beat of the song that’s playing.

Snap your fingers, clap your hands, or do an enthusiastic arm wave – when in doubt, try any one of these so you don’t leave your arms hanging lifeless at your sides.

Stumped on dance moves for slow songs? Then you’ll want to learn the box step, a graceful ballroom basic that’s really not as hard as it seems.

In this step, the person leading moves one foot forward, then slides the other forward to bring the feet together. Then, he steps to the side with one foot, slides the other to bring the feet together, and repeats it across 4 'corners' of the 'box'.

If you’re not leading, you’ll begin the step by stepping back and repeating the movements with your dance partner in the shape of a square or a box.

Gents, keep your shoulders straight for this dance, place your right hand below your partner’s shoulder blade while holding her right hand in your left.
