The founder of the Maideasy app gives us an insight into his professional life

Azrul Rahim is on a mission to revolutionise domestic help. His Maideasy app allows Malaysians to hire cleaners whenever they need them, dispensing with the need for live-in maids, and provides self-employed cleaners with training and employment opportunities. What sets Maideasy apart from its competition is that its team is made up entirely of Malaysians. It also advocates gender parity in a job that is commonly perceived as female-oriented.

In his own words, Azrul gives us an insight into his work.

His inspiration

"Lately, it is my daughter who has been inspiring me. Having a child reminds you of your own mortality, the importance of fighting for what’s right in the world, which we can all agree is in quite a mess."

His approach to challenges

"Overcoming challenges is about breaking them into smaller, easier pieces. If you constantly think of big challenges, you will feel overwhelmed to the point that they can paralyse you. Whenever I feel a challenge is too big, I just focus on what can I do today to turn it into a good day."

His productivity tip

"It’s best to write things down. If it is not written down, it may not happen. Also, the irony of being productive, at least to me, is to be not too ambitious and write tonnes of things you want to do for the day. If my daily plan takes up more than half a page in my notebook, I know some won’t get done."

His company's USP

"The Maideasy app allows you to have no need for a live-in maid any more. We want it to be your personal domestic assistant, plus you know that you’re helping the local economy and a community in need."

His life philosophy

"My philosophy is be yourself and not someone else. It’s so easy to look at others, what they have and do, then want that as well. But you will only end up being a stranger to yourself."
