We bring you a roundup of the best-dressed from the MET Gala red carpet, celebrating Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between.

The annual MET Gala takes place on the first Monday in May each year and is an internationally-renowned parade of the most extravagant haute couture styles. The experimental nature of many of the outfits means celebs either cement themselves in fashion history or leave themselves open to meme-ridicule with a single fashion faux-pas

This year's theme, Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between, saw many guests donning pieces from the celebrated fashion house, featuring gravity-defying bows, structural dresses and bold monocoloured outfits. Take a look at our fashion favourites from the evening.

Rihanna in Comme des Garçons and Chopard

Rihanna's high top-knot and red-toned makeup perfectly complement her top-heavy floral Comme des Garçons dress and Chopard jewels.

Anna Cleveland in Comme des Garçons

Deconstructed tailoring and an overflow of bows—Kawakubo’s signature looks great on Anna, who’s a vision in white.

Riley Keough in Louis Vuitton

We love how Riley keeps it natural with her hair and makeup, putting the focus firmly on her dress—a long-sleeved sequined number with epaulette chains.

Gigi Hadid in Tommy Hilfiger and Christian Louboutin

Gigi keeps it elegant in a Tommy Hilfiger deconstructed jacket top with a corseted waist and an asymmetrical skirt, paired with thigh-high fishnets and Louboutin heels.

Bella Hadid in Alexander Wang

Bella channels her inner Catwoman in this fierce feline bodysuit. We love how her heels are wrapped in the same crystal material, too.

Cara Delevingne in Chanel Haute Couture

Cara truly gets into the theme for this year’s ball—we love how she opted for silver painted hair to match her embroidered suit.

Liu Wen in Off-White

Chinese model Liu Wen is a great example of how to mix streetwear into your look while still keeping it elegant enough for the red carpet. She chooses a silhouette that is fail-proof with a classic v-neck long-sleeved gown from Virgil Abloh’s Off-White label, with a surprise factor—the skirt's frayed-edge denim.

 Kerry Washington in Michael Kors

Kerry’s daring patchworked dress by American designer Michael Kors fit her perfectly, and we love the short bob she sported with it (a nod to Rei, perhaps?).

Gwyneth Paltrow in Calvin Klein Appointment

Queen of the classics, Gwyneth Paltrow opted for a clean-lined dress in pink by Raf Simons at Calvin Klein. A flashback moment, perhaps? Paltrow also wore a Calvin Klein sheath for her first-ever MET gala in 1995—she's come fashion full-circle.

Celine Dion in Atelier Versace

We’ve seen Celine Dion gradually make her way into the fashion circuit in recent years—she’s popped up at a few couture shows in Paris, and makes her debut at the MET gala this year in an Atelier Versace gown. Our favorite part of the look? The statement origami-inspired headpiece.

Rita Ora in Marchesa and Lorraine Schwartz

Rita is never one to turn down an opportunity to get glammed up—at the MET gala, she sported a bow-heavy sculptural number by Marchesa and jewellery from Lorraine Schwartz.

Katy Perry in Maison Margiela Couture

Singer Katy Perry is also never one to shy away from geting completely dressed up. She sports a red veiled look from Maison Margiela’s Spring 2017 couture show—head-to-toe, quite literally.
