Gucci Ushers In A New Era For The Jackie 1961 Bag
The Gucci Fall Winter 2020 collection saw handbags from the Beloved collection including the Dionysus and the Horsebit 1955 receiving their seasonal updates, but it was the revamped Jackie that ultimately stole the show. Decades of reinvention later, creative director Alessandro Michele lends the new Jackie 1961 his unique take.
But first, a bit of a history lesson. The iconic bag was originally called the Constance but became known as the Jackie after US First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy declared it as her favourite handbag. Tom Ford revived it in the late 1990s, infusing the elegant bag with bold colours before Frida Giannini followed up with an even bolder design in 2009 dubbed "the New Jackie". In 2014, supermodel Kate Moss modelled the "Jackie Soft", a chic hobo rendition.
Back to the present, Michele revisits the beloved original silhouette, and embellished it with modern details for a refreshing contemporariness. Think pastel shades of lilac, light blue and soft pink. The exquisite material include black, white and red leather as well as the emblematic GG Supreme canvas. In an exclusive Tatler Malaysia photo spread, stylish sisters Rachel and Michelle Yeoh showcase the sublime modernity of the new Jackie 1961. Scroll the gallery below for this visual feast.
