Gucci's creative director has presented four headline-grabbing collections which the British Fashion Council confirmed "Gucci's position as a truly directional fashion house."

Gucci Creative Director Alessandro Michele is set to receive the International Designer Award at the 2015 British Fashion Awards later this month.

The head of the Italian luxury house has made waves in the fashion industry since taking the reins of the global brand in January 2015. He will be presented with the award during the ceremony taking place on November 23.

Michele's appointment marked a brave and significant shift in aesthetics for Gucci - a house famed for its leather goods and accessories, which currently is one of the top brands in the global luxury goods market. Yet in the nine months since Alessandro took up his new role, he has presented four headline-grabbing collections that have set the fashion agenda, and, according to the British Fashion Council (BFC), confirmed "Gucci's position as a truly directional fashion house".

"Alessandro Michele is a phenomenon at Gucci," said BFC Chairwoman Natalie Massenet. "His exciting eclectic aesthetic has made an overnight impact on global fashion trends. It is not just that he has made the brand covetable and the product so desirable. He has also reinvigorated the retail experience bringing back playfulness and magic to the flagship store. This is a man who has his customer in his heart and celebrates them."

Michele was first brought into the Gucci fold by Tom Ford in 2002, after cutting his teeth at Fendi, where he worked as Senior Accessories Designer. According to the BFC, his "unique understanding and appreciation of the historical codes of Gucci" have led to the creation of "a compelling new narrative for the brand".
