1. Scandi hairline

The Scandi hairline is set to be one of the hottest beauty trends of 2024. According to Beauty Pie, searches on Google for this hair trend have skyrocketed by almost 7,000 per cent in the last six months of 2023. Inspired by the naturally blonde Scandinavian hair, it involves applying a lightener just to your hairline, including the finer baby hairs around your face, which is said to help frame the face better. This style has been made popular by influencers such as Matilda Djerf.

2. Cherry cola lips

Given how pops of red dominated runways in autumn and winter of 2023 (think Peter Do’s spring-summer collection 2024 at Paris Fashion Week in September), deep cherry tones are also making their way into make-up in 2024. Called cherry cola lips, it evokes the rich colours of a cherry cola drink and can be achieved by applying shiny brown and red lip glosses. It’s a look that was once popularly worn by Black and Latina women in the ’90s, and more recently, celebs like Kylie Jenner have also donned this make-up.

3. Chocolate milk nails

It seems like naming trends after drinks is also in vogue in the beauty world, so we have the deliciously named chocolate milk nails that’s set to become a rage in 2024. It involves colouring one’s nails in shades of brown that look very chocolatey—and is said to work on diverse skin tones, creating contrast for lighter complexions and acting as a complimentary hue to those with deeper complexions.

4. Espresso make-up

While strawberry girl make-up—with its light, rosy and berry glossy look—was a summer hit, espresso make-up is its winter counterpart: sophisticated glamour with a dark feminine edge. It involves smudged coffee-coloured eyeshadows, dark eyeliner, brown lipstick and contour to shape the face. Imagine an espresso martini personified.

5. Butterfly bob

The butterfly bob is a softer, feathery and face-framing version of the traditional bob. With plenty of layers and an emphasis on curls, it makes for an elegant party look—as worn by Zendaya at the 2023 NAACP Image Awards—or an elevated everyday style.

6. Lavender chrome nails

Chrome nails were all the rage in 2023. This year, beauty fans are going to experiment even more with the chrome nails trend by opting for lavender and lilac colours, that can be spiced up with a crystal finish, courtesy of a chrome-effect top coat.

7. Preppy bob

Last year, when American model Hailey Bieber embraced the chic, understated preppy bob—a haircut that ends somewhere between the chin and shoulders, it led to several beauty influencers trying the haircut because it’s easy to style and looks good even when the hair eventually grows longer. In 2024, it’s set to be the talk of hair salons around the world, so if you’re looking to make a ‘new year, new me’ statement, this might be the chop to choose.

8. Milk bath nails

Thanks to the rise of quiet luxury in fashion, which often leans towards white, cream and beige shades, creamy-neutral nails also became quite sought-after in 2023. Milk bath nails are an iteration of that aesthetic, where the milky appearance is achieved by a semi-sheer white polish. It’s a barely-there look that promises to go with all outfits, all seasons and all skin tones. What’s not to like?

9. Vanilla chai hair

Vanilla chai might sound like a tempting drink on your neighbourhood café’s menu, but it’s also a hairstyle trend that is predicted to become hugely popular in 2024. Vanilla chai hair colour refers to an ashy blonde hue blended with hints of brunette and dark roots—creating a look that works well all year round.

10. Balletcore make-up

Balletcore, a fashion trend inspired by ballet dancers’ costumes, was one of the buzziest styles that trended both on social media and the runways in 2023. Balletcore make-up is an extension of that—and it embodies that same feminine aesthetics. Think pink eyeshadow, naturally glowing skin, a pop of light pink blush and lipstick.
