Limited to just 60 pieces, the new ultra-slim, contemporary model will be presented at the upcoming Baselworld watch and jewellery fair, running March 17-24, 2016, in Basel, Switzerland.

This year sees Swiss watchmaker Blancpain celebrate the 60th anniversary of its "Ladybird" with a revisited limited-edition version of this iconic ladies' wristwatch. Limited to just 60 pieces, the new ultra-slim, contemporary model will be presented at the upcoming Baselworld watch and jewellery fair, running March 17-24, 2016, in Basel, Switzerland.

Launched in 1956, the original Blancpain "Ladybird" was the fruit of a genuine technical achievement, since, at the time, the watch was equipped with the most compact round movement on the market.

Six decades later, the firm's master watchmakers are paying tribute to this icon of elegance with several new takes on the exceptional "Ladybird" model, including the "Ladybird Ultraplate," due to be presented at Baselworld.

Luxury and femininity

This 2016 version has a dial that plays with contrast and light thanks to its interlacing mother-of-pearl foliage and eight diamonds (0.011 karats).

The "Ladybird Ultraplate" has a 21.50mm case that's 8.23mm thick and made from 18-karat white gold. The bezel is set with 32 diamonds (0.534 karats).

This model uses a self-winding mechanical movement, offers hours and minutes functions, and has a 40-hour power reserve. The "Ladybird Ultraplate" is water-resistant to 30 metres.

In a final touch of elegance, the dark purple strap is made from the small scales of Louisiana alligator leather.
