Skeletonising a watch dial not only reveals the heartbeat of the watch but also gives a striking lightweight aesthetic. And when this is combined with a slimmed down case, the effect is quite breathtaking, as evident in the new Piaget Polo Skeleton. Without compromising the design of its distinctive cushion shape, the steel case is now 30 per cent thinner than before, and houses the 1200S1 automatic movement that is only 2.4mm in height. 

The movement parts are either coated in blue PVD or given a slate-grey finish. The bracelet has also been redesigned with an interchangeable function so you can go from a steel bracelet to a rubber strap in a jiffy.

If you're fastidious about timing, you can't get any more accurate than the new Zenith Chronomaster Sport. The chronograph is equipped with an improved El Primero 3600 calibre that can measure 1/10th of a second, complete with a display on the bezel—it claims to be the only watch to have this clear indicator. This is the latest in the 50-year evolution of the El Primero, one of the most precise chronograph movements today, and is also endowed with a 5Hz escapement and a 60-hour power reserve. 

Design-wise, the Chronomaster Sport comes with a blue or white dial with tri-colour chronograph counters, a design signature of watches powered by El Primero. There is also a choice of an integrated bracelet that recalls the bracelets designed by Gay Frères, or a textured cordura-effect rubber strap.
