Beauty brand Estee Lauder has tapped Momofuku Milk Bar baker Christina Tosi to distill the scents and smells of one of its signature perfumes into a cookie. This move brings to mind another perfume brand, Diptyque, which also turned its signature Do Son perfume into an edible dessert.

As part of the new lifestyle channel Estee Edit, launched last month, the French beauty brand enlisted one of New York’s hottest bakers to come up with an original cookie recipe inspired by its Private Collection perfume, the scent worn by Lauder herself.

To evoke the perfume’s signature Bulgarian rose scent, the Estee Cookie is made with rose extract and freeze-dried strawberries.

Until its debut in 1973, Lauder jealously guarded the secrets of her private, bespoke scent -- a mixture of oils and other scents -- telling friends that the perfume they were admiring was her “private collection.”

Private Collection perfume is a green floral scent with notes of honeysuckle, orange flower and sandalwood. Feminine and empowering like the latest Estee Lauder release, Modern Muse, it remains one of the most iconic scents from the brand to this day.

Estee Edit launched last month as a lifestyle and editorial site that includes features on beauty, fashion, food and fitness.

It’s become an increasingly popular marketing strategy in the beauty and fashion industry to team up with a dessert brand or take inspiration from the confectionery world for a launch.

Sephora teamed up with French macaron brand Laduree to launch the beauty line Les Merveilleuses Laduree, which includes eye shadows, lip glosses and blush inspired by Laduree's fairy tale pastel colors.

Demeter Fragrance, meanwhile, boasts perhaps the widest -- and strangest -- collection of food-inspired scents, with a library that includes everything from the standard sweet smells of sugar cookie and apple pie to the eyebrow raising pizza, rye bread, sushi and dirt.

And in Girona, Spain, the pastry chef of the Michelin-starred El Celler de Can Roca also created a woman’s perfume, Nuvol de Llimona, which bottles the smells and tastes of lemon muffin soaked in milk in a flask.
