The relationship between cinema and the fashion industry is inseparable especially when it comes to the costumes. From the iconic black Givenchy dress worn by Audrey Hepburn in "Breakfast At Tiffany's" to the apparent costumery under the eye of fashion designer turned filmmaker Tom Ford for his movie, "Nocturnal Animals".

The connection between these two art forms has been more developed with the introduction of short films focusing on a theme for a campaign or acting as an informative piece on a fashion house's history.

Even though the premise is a fictional setting of the production for Gabrielle Chanel’s biopic, there is a sense of realism having ‘Personal Shopper’ star Kristen Stewart play a spoilt actress portraying the young Coco Chanel.

Observe the designs of Chanel throughout the times in the costumes of both Stewart and long-time Chanel Ambassador Geraldine Chaplin (we love the presence of the iconic pearls worn in some scenes!).

Based on Grace Coddington’s career spanning over 50 years, the former model is candid in this documentary presenting the production of her first independent brand campaign with Tiffany & Co.

The creative director at large of Vogue takes the luxury jewellery brand to new heights by introducing celebrities like Elle Fanning into their campaign , and thus, a creative meaningful partnership was born.

3. Coach: Words Matter

Centering on the issue of why words should be cautiously chosen, this short movie starring the rising actor Michael B Jordan has zero dialogue but retains a powerful message. With the background of the empty desert and the sole character clad in all leather, it feels more like the beginning of a thrilling road movie.

4. Burberry: The Tale of Thomas Burberry

With scenes transitioning from war torn Britain to the designer’s own workspace where he often experimented with textiles, the Burberry festive film starring Domhnall Gleeson and Sienna Miller is a breath-taking epic. Marking the brand’s 160th year, the fashion film explored the titular moments of Burberry’s historical making and the founder's invention of the innovative gabardine.

5. Kenzo: Kenzo World

Call it what you want; eccentric, gaudy or just plain odd but one thing is for sure that it’s not boring. The world of Kenzo interpreted by Academy Award-winning director Spike Jonze is a fiesta of bizarre choreography performed by actress and dancer Margaret Qualley against an even more peculiar soundtrack rightly titled ‘Mutant Brain’ by Sam Spiegel & Ape Drums.

6. Prada: Castello Cavalcanti

Is there any other director more synonymous to well-tailored costumes and  colour schemes than Wes Anderson? Beloved by the fashion world, the filmmaker wrote and directed for Prada, a short movie that’s filled with his recognised humour and trademarked symmetrical framing.

7. Gucci: Gucci & Beyond

There’s nothing quite like the fashion and production design of 1960s sci-fi TV shows and films, and Gucci successfully captured the charming campiness of it all. The grainy filter that’s common in mediums of that era together with zany characters dressed in their dynamic collection gave the campaign a retro aesthetic.
