The French designer was quickly appointed by the house, following Daniel Lee’s sudden departure last week
Fashion enthusiasts can stop speculating about the changes taking place at Bottega Veneta, as it announced yesterday that Matthieu Blazy will take over as creative director. Blazy has been working at Bottega Veneta since 2020, so he’s experienced the tail end of Daniel Lee’s vision for the house.
The French designer comes with a wealth of experience—he started out working with Raf Simons designing menswear, before moving to Maison Martin Margiela to work on women’s ready-to-wear and their artisanal collection.

He then crossed paths with Daniel Lee, having worked at Céline with Phoebe Philo in 2014, before returning to work with Raf Simons again at Calvin Klein from 2016 to 2019.
Blazy has been recognised for his work by the industry too, with Suzy Menkes famously revealing his identity back in 2014 when she became impressed with his designs at Margiela.
Leo Rongone, CEO of Bottega Veneta, said: “Matthieu Blazy is an extraordinarily talented individual, whom I am proud and excited to entrust with the creative helm of our luxury house. Matthieu’s appointment will further enhance the modern relevance of our brand and accelerate our growth, while preserving the values that are at the core of Bottega Veneta.”
He will present his first collection in February 2022, and we’re excited to see what he brings to the table for this new era of Bottega Veneta.
