From Dior's technicolour takeover of the Jardin des Tuileries to Saint Laurent's dramatic catwalk under the Eiffel Tower, maisons have put in extra thought to welcome their A-list guests back to the French capital in style after a year of travel lockdown.

Matthew William's latest collection for Givenchy embraces and subverts tradition with corsets, peplums and Prince of Wales checks juxtaposed against raw edges, mohair wools and Napa leathers. "I worked with people I admire across different disciplines who have truly unique perspectives including the artist Josh Smith, whose iconic work is incorporated throughout the collection," he says.

He also collaborated with musician Young Thug to create the entire score for the show, which was attended by Offset, Kid Cudi, Sinead Burke, Brooklyn Beckham and his fiancée, Nicola Peltz.

To present his latest collection, creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli held a Valentino rendez-vous with a celebrity gueslist, including Brooklyn Beckham and his fiancée, Giveon, Emily Ratajkowski and Vanessa Kirby. Notably missing was the current face of Valentino, Zendaya. "Congratulations on yet another absolutely gorgeous show, wish I was there," she wrote on her social media. Instead, the Euphoria and Spider-Man actress posed for a series of photos in the maison's vintage couture and recreating an iconic image of Marisa Berensen from 1968.

Demna Gvasalia put on one of the most unique shows at Paris Fashion Week by live-streaming the arrival of his guests to the show at Théâtre du Châtelet, only for many to realise that the line-up of stars and models, including Naomi Campbell, Lewis Hamilton, Elliot Page, Cardi B and Offset, were actually modelling Balenciaga's spring/summer 2022 looks before they took their seats in the front row and watched the big finale: a fashion film starring the Simpsons! And in another meta moment, the film mirrored reality by featuring cartoon versions of Anna Wintour, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West in the front row of Marge and Homer's fashion show.
