Vault is a new digital platform, envisioned by creative director Alessandro Michele, offering exclusive vintage items and a space for emerging designers

Alessandro Michele, creative director of Gucci, is known for initiating adventurous endeavours to drive the brand towards different avenues. His latest idea is an online concept store, Vault, which is an amalgamation of history, collaboration, and art.

The website features vintage items, handpicked by him and restored by the brand’s expert archivists, accompanied by details on each piece’s history. There will also be select one-of-kind items customised by Michele on offer.

“When I find these objects, to me they are like relics; mutant relics,” Michele said. “We cared for them and chose them because we heard the tone of their voice; we put them in this sort of display window and I also treated them with love because I looked at them all again, examined them, and they became wonders."

These items will be released in limited quantities at regular intervals throughout the year.

Vault will also serve as a platform for up-and-coming designers, including Ahluwalia, Stefan Cooke, Cormio, Rave Review, Bianca Saunders, Collina Strada and Rui Zhou. This collaboration began last November, when these designers presented their collections through fashion films shown on the digital platform GucciFest; in the future the website will sell a selection of their products.

As well as shopping, there will be updated “editions” of Vault showcasing creative projects that draw inspiration from Gucci in media such as short stories or poetry.

“For me, shopping isn’t simply about buying things. It is about establishing a connection with them, entering into a relationship,” said Michele. “In my mind, I always had the idea to create a place in constant evolution where ‘impossible’ conversations between objects from different origins, creators, and eras could take place.”
