The Terrestrial Map by Girard-Perregaux

Inspired by Italian Jesuit, Matteo Ricci; watchmaker Girard-Perregaux paints a map of the Old World with Indian ink on a smooth white jade stone.

In a tribute to the famous Chambers of Curiosities, the forerunners to museums in Renaissance Europe era, watchmaker Girard-Perregaux unveils the Chambers of Wonders collection that explores the tradition of discoveries, adventures and beauty of the past.

Within the collection, there are three magnificent designs – The Pearl of Wonders, The Terrestrial Map, and The New World – and each of them is designed based on a map drawn by different cartographers of the time.

The Terrestrial Map watch stands out with its minimalistis black and white illustration, which is painted based on an ancient Chinese map by Italian Jesuit, Matteo Ricci.

For this intricate piece, Girard-Perregaux chose the pure white jade stone as the canvas for the watch dial. Then through the hands of Girard-Perregaux's master craftsman, the map is painted on the jade using Indian ink that is mixed with a special binder.

After 17 hours of hardwork, the Terrestrial Map watch is then paired with the signature GP03300 caliber, with a 46-hour power reserve at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, and encased in a rose gold body with a luxurious black leather strap.

Priced at USD143,550 (RM530,000), the watch will be limited to only 18 pieces each. For more information, please visit Girard-Perregaux's website.
