The art world’s most iconic masterpieces are reproduced in a novelty collection of bags and accessories.

Commissioned projects with artists like Yayoi Kusama, Takashi Murakami and Richard Prince eventually led to the opening of the Fondation Louis Vuitton art museum in 2014, cementing the brand’s role as patron and curator of the arts experience.

This time around, the fashion house has teamed up with New-York-based contemporary artist Jeff Koons to create a collection of bags and accessories featuring hand-painted reproductions of masterpieces by the Old Masters – da Vinci, Titian, Rubens, Fragonard and Van Gogh.

The collection reconfigures the Louis Vuitton monogram with Koons’ own initials, signaling a change to the house codes of design. Each bag also carries a tag in the shape of an inflatable rabbit as Koons’ enduring work motif. Within the bags are a biography and portrait of the Master whose work adorns the bag.

A dinner was held in celebration of the collaboration next to the Mona Lisa, in the Salles des Etats. Bernard Arnault, chairman and CEO of LVMH and Jean-Luc Martinez, president-director of the Louvre Museum, hosted the event that was attended by celebrities like Cate Blanchett, Jennifer Aniston, Catherine Deneuve and Rila Fukushima.
