MB&F Legacy Machine LM101 Frost Limited Edition

The frost is injected into what you might call the dial, but which is in fact the mainplate of the LM101 movement inside.

Frost. The word typically conjures up images of breath-condensing cold that cripples and slows, but we see freshness, brightness, a sharp incomparable sparkle bouncing off the durable hardiness of ice crystals.

The latter is what we see in MB&F’s newest addition to its Legacy Machine 101 watch family, the LM101 Frost Limited Edition.

When MB&F first presented the LM101 a year ago, the watch focused on just 3 essential elements – the balance wheel, a power reserve indicator and the time. The watch captured the essence in a classic 40mm case.

Today, the brand is going one-step further in its classic watchmaking journey by introducing a bit of frost into the classic to premiere a new frosted counterpart.

The effect is created with a traditional finishing technique, which goes back all the way to the 18th century to a time when pocket watches were not at all water resistant. To protect from oxidation, movement plates and bridges were frosted by treating their surfaces with acid and fire. The step renders them more resistant, and also gives them a beautiful silvery, frosted look.

The technique is modernised and injected into the LM101 Frost by watchmaker Kari Voutilainen into what you might call the dial, but which is in fact the mainplate of the LM101 movement inside.

To bring more attention to the frosted dial, the watch comes with a highly-domed sapphire crystal that is virtually invisible. On the back, an exquisite hand-finished movement can be seen also through a domed display back crystal.

The LM101 Frost is available in 2 limited editions: 18 pieces in yellow gold and 33 pieces in red gold.
