What started with the chunky 'dad sneakers' trend has now evolved into a wardrobe staple for fashion-forward men

These days, a pair of chunky shoes can elevate—quite literally—your look, whether it is an oversized suit or loose joggers. So give yourself an extra inch with these new releases of chunky men's shoes.

1. Balenciaga X-Pander Spring-Heel Trainer Sneakers

With the Triple S and Track sneakers under their belt, Balenciaga ups the chunk factor yet again with the release of their new X-Pander sneakers, which made its world debut at their SS21 fashion show a few months ago.

The Balenciaga X-Pander sneakers gives off a distinctive '90s feel a mesh base and eclectic colour patterns. And to that theme, they introduce an exciting new detail on the sole. Bringing a new meaning to having a bounce in your step, there is a spring beneath the sneaker's chunky heel—channelling the nostalgic spirit of kitschy inventions from that era (think Furby and the Super Soaker)

2. Comme des Garcon Homme Plus x Nike Air Carnivore

The Nike Air Carnivore, first introduced in 1993, is given a Comme des Garcon Homme Plus makeover. Minimalist and monochromatic with their respective brandings blended into the mid-foot strap and heel, these must-have shoes are very on-trend on this season's obsession with the sci-fi aesthetic. Paired with cropped bottoms and a tunic or turtleneck top, we can easily imagine a futuristic space soldier outfit, especially with the reflective 3M detailing on the white pair.

4. Reebok Zig 3D Storm Hydro

Hot on the heels of Reebok's Zig Kinetica 2 comes yet another reiteration of the Zig. This Zig 3D Storm is built like a tank. Incorporating Reebok's ShelterShield system, found in their famed Winter Runner III shoes released at the turn of the millennium, there are rubber coverings cover the upper with a speed-lacing toggle and laces hooked onto the tongue.

But the real show-stealer are their soles. The thick Zig Energy Bands on either side of the shoe add a masculine, minimalist aesthetic while serving to keep the rigid shape of the shoe. And impressively, there is no need to compromise on comfort with their state-of-the-art cushioning system with Floatride Fuel.

7. Reebok Braindead Zig Kinetica II Shoes

We will be the first to admit that this aesthetic may not be everyone's cup of tea. Nevertheless, this shoe is perfect for those who are fans of the LA streetwear brand, We Are Braindead, or those looking to make a statement with their footwear.

Brain Dead goes for a total takeover of this iconic Reebok shoe, plastering their logo on the side and their distinctive motif on the tongue tag. Available in two colourways, this is yet another alien-themed reimagining of the Zig that we love.
