Baselworld 2015 - Omega Speedmaster Apollo 13 Silver Snoopy Award watch

At Baselworld 2015, Omega marked the 45th anniversary of Apollo 13 with the limited edition Speedmaster Apollo 13 Silver Snoopy Award watch.

Exactly 45 years ago, the Apollo 13 Command Module aborted its mission to the Moon due to an oxygen tank explosion.

However, it was considered a 'successful failure' as the astronauts onboard managed to land the spacecraft safely back to Earth with a 14-second mid-course correction – all thanks to their onboard backup timing device: The Omega Speedmaster.

Now, Omega has created the limited edition Speedmaster Apollo 13 Silver Snoopy Award  to commemorate the 45th anniversary of the epic space feat.

First seen in the recent Baselworld 2015, the new watch draws inspiration from elements of the incident with the Silver Snoopy Award given to Omega for its contributions to NASA.

The complex dial is created in pure black and white for a classic approach but added with quirky touches in form of a sleeping Snoopy and two memorable quotes.

The first is "What you could do in 14 seconds?", which is a nod to Apollo 13's 14 second transition in space and the other quote, "Failure is not an option", was inspired by actor Ed Harris who played in a film about Apollo 13.

While the front is captivating, the highlight of the watch lies at the one-of-a-kind caseback, which features a silver Snoopy mounted on a 925 silver plate and surrounded by dark blue enamel to resemble space.

Also, a series of words is engraved on the caseback to pay homage to Apollo 13 including '45th Anniversary' and '0000/1970'.

Priced at USD7,350 (RM28,000), the Speedmaster Apollo 13 Silver Snoopy Award watch will only have 1970 pieces produced.

The watch will be available in stores from September 2015 onwards. For more information, please contact your nearest Omega boutique or authorised dealers or visit Omega's official website.
