The Schaffhausen manufacture is set to reaffirm its commitment to aviation-inspired luxury timepieces in 2019. Here's an early look at 3 of them.

Pilot’s Watch Timezoner Spitfire Edition “The Longest Flight”

Tatler Asia

IWC Schaffhausen will be the main sponsor of the “Silver Spitfire – The Longest Flight” project in which Steve Boultbee Brooks and Matt Jones will embark on the first ever flight around the world in a Spitfire this summer. This watch marks the new partnership with, fittingly enough, a world timer inspired by the design of the iconic Mark 11 navigation watch.

Endowed with the new in-house 82760 calibre, a new time zone can be set by simply rotating the bezel to the relevant city and the hour hand, date as well as the 24-hour display will automatically adjust to the new time. A perfect companion for the frequent traveller, the watch features a 42mm stainless steel case, a black dial and a green textile strap, and is limited to 250 pieces.

Pilot’s Watch Double Chronograph TOP GUN Ceratanium

Tatler Asia

The Top Gun collection is named itself after training programme for US Navy pilots, just like the Tom Cruise movie. Since legibility is crucial to the pilot during flight, an all-black pilot’s watch was unheard of – until now.

As the first pilot’s watch to be completely matt black, the case is made of the extraordinarily robust Ceratanium composed of ceramic and titanium. A composite developed by IWC, it is also hypoallergenic with high resistance against corrosion. The split-seconds chronograph comes with a black rubber strap with textile inlay.

Big Pilot’s Watch Constant-Force Tourbillon Edition

Tatler Asia

For the first time since IWC started collaborating with the family of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry in 2005, the watchmaker is equipping the Le Petit Prince pilot’s watch with its patented constant-force tourbillon. The constant-force mechanism ensures a consistent flow of energy to the escapement while the tourbillon counteracts the negative effects of gravity, leading to vastly improved time-keeping precision.

Limited to 10 pieces, IWC is also introducing its first hard gold case with this watch. The alloy has been manipulated through a sophisticated process to make it significantly harder and more wear-resistant than the standard red gold.
