Have some fun trying out these easy, minimal make-up looks for the Raya season

More than a year into the pandemic, there is a general consensus in the beauty community that less is more after the initial enthusiasm for incredibly intricate and experimental looks died down. Instead, a new era of stress-free make-up has taken over just in time for the Raya season. But rest assured, it still allows for the same level of creative self-expression, especially in the eyes, we have all become accustomed to.

This tie-dye look is one of the biggest—and simplest—make-up trends out there right now. As you can see, there are so many ways to achieve this look, from colour combinations to placement. Our favourite application technique is to cover the whole eyelid with a soft, pastel colour that matches our Raya outfits and add a dash of bright blue in the inner corner of the eye, as well as the lower lash line.

And the best part about this beauty trend is that it takes less than a minute to complete the look. Just finish off with a few coats of mascara, no eyeliner necessary!

Tatler's Top Pick: The limited edition Nudestix Heaven & Earth make-up kit features waterproof magnetic matte eye colour sticks in three soft pastel colours, lilac sky, oceania and weed. As a bonus, there is also a sunset peach plush paint, which can be used for both the eyelids and lips.

2. Colour Me Blue

Speaking of a pop of colour, it would seem that coloured eyeliner of the Noughties are back and here to stay. For a more muted look, a colour palette of blendable brown, maroon and purple is always a safe bet. But if you're feeling more adventurous this year and looking to outshine your siblings on the Raya family zoom call, bright blue is the way to go.

Tatler's Top Pick: Chanel Stylo Yeux waterproof eyeliner in Fervent Blue.

3. A Different Corner

That is not to say black eyeliner is being kicked to the curb! Instead of an ultra-sharp cat-eye, shake things up with this minimalistic liner look that Thomas de Kluyver created for the Gucci Aria show. Swapping out liquid liner for a softer kohl pencil, this day-to-night make-up look adds some edgy definition without overpowering the face.

Tatler's Top Pick: Gucci Beauty Stylo Contour des Yeux kohl eyeliner.

4. All Fluff

Have you seen the viral TikTok trend where beauty gurus compare their make-up looks, 2016 vs now? One of the biggest cultural changes has been the death of browmania, where the eyebrows were filled to the darkest shade, arched to the gods and so sharply defined with concealer, it could genuinely kill a man.

Now, fluffy, feathered brows reign supreme and can be found on the most influential of celebrities including Gigi Hadid, Shay Mitchell and Serena Williams. And if you don't want to commit to micro-blading or brow lamination, have no fear! You can try your hand at creating this look with a brow gel or pomade or even a simple bar of soap. If you're going for the latter, just mist a clean spoolie, rub the bristles against the bar and comb the gel-like residue through your brows.

Tatler Tip: If your brows are sparse, you can always fill them in by drawing realistic strands of hair in upwards motions. We recommend the Urban Decay Brow Blade for its ultra-thin tips.

Tatler's Top Pick: Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade.

5. Go Natural

Glass skin is out. Right now, it's all about natural, flawless skin with a matte but glowing finish.

It may seem dichotomous but several beauty brands, including Becca Cosmetics and Burberry, have perfected a formula that brings the long-wearing and oil-controlling benefits of matte foundation without losing the skin's natural glow.

Tatler Tip: It is essential to use a hydrating concealer, such as the Fenty Beauty Bright Fix Eye Brightener, before layering with a matte foundation for a smooth finish.

Tatler's Top Pick: Burberry Beauty Matte Glow Liquid Foundation.

6. Subtle Shine

With wearing a mask still mandatory, it only makes sense to let the eyes do most of the talking but that doesn't mean that the lips should be neglected. Instead, this is a golden time to let your lips recuperate with tinted lip balm which will enhance the natural colour of your lips with only one swipe, leaving a nice, subtle shine.

Tatler's Top Pick: Dior Addict Lip Glow lip balm.
