Society Secrets: Megat Alfie, co-founder and PR director of Syaiful Baharim
When it comes to looking good with as little fuss as possible, Megat Alfie swears by a clear complexion, neat hair and always keeping one's nails short.
The days when grooming and taking care of oneself are reserved only for the ladies are long over. These days, even the men are beginning to realise the importance of taking care of one's appearance and rightly so. Their tools may not necessarily be red lipstick and liquid eyeliners like Jasiminne Yip's, but they are slowly but surely realising the positive impact of clear skin and a wicked hair do.
"Appearance is important because it reflects who you are, especially at first glance," tells Megat Alfie, the well-groomed co-founder and PR director of fashion brand, Syaiful Baharim. "I understand that people always say beauty comes from the inside, but when you first meet someone, he or she is not going to know who you are. It's that first impression that counts and you do not know who you will meet at any given time, so make it count."

Often spotted at the hottest fashion events in town with not a single strand of hair out of place, we sat down with the stylish manager to find out just how exactly he achieves that and were surprised to learn he takes no more than 20 minutes most days to look as good as he does.
What's your everyday go-to look?
Personally, I like looking neat. I think this works in most situations and I believe the one key thing to looking good is having good skin. So skincare is important on a daily basis.
I use the Shiseido Men Cleansing Foam, Shiseido Men Toning Lotion, Shiseido Men Moisturizing Emulsion (for day) and Shiseido Men Total Revitalizer (for night) on a daily basis.
If you only had 10 minutes before you need to be out the door, how would you get ready?
Skincare, maybe some minimal foundation and I'll throw on a hat!
What part of you takes the longest to prep and prime?
When it comes to going for events, prepping my hair takes the cake. I keep it in place using Schwarzkopf Professional Osis+ Gelastic Texture Gel and Schwarzkopf Professional Osis+ Freeze Hairspray.
What do you think about makeup for men? Are you for or against it?
I believe it's a personal choice and who is to say it is not right? Using makeup has some of its advantages, such as concealing imperfections and boosting a person's confidence. I use it sometimes, depending on the occasion. When I do, I use very simple and basic products such as the Bare Minerals Matte Powder Foundation.
For the typical bachelor who cannot be bothered to groom himself, what's your advice for the fastest and easiest way he can make himself look presentable?
Keep clean, do your hair, dress well and you are done. Oh and keep the nails short!
What's the one grooming tool you would encourage a guy to invest in?
Not many men can pull off facial hair. For those who can, what do you think is the biggest plus point?
Having facial hair is a great way to frame the face. Although I don't have thick facial hair, I visit the local barber for a good trim from time to time.
What is the one beauty product that you cannot live without?
I hate having chapped lips, so I carry the Vaseline Lip Therapy tube with me in my pocket all the time.
