"Fashion is ephemeral. Art is eternal," declared the great poet and playwright, Oscar Wilde in his essay, 'The Philosophy of Dress'. This statement is true in relation to these spring summer 2019 collections, from Stella McCartney to Louis Vuitton that immortalise fashion icons including Mr. Wilde himself.

Seeing the discographic progress of her father’s band under intimate observation, Stella McCartney pays an homage to The Beatles specifically during the psychedelic rock era of The Yellow Submarine.  From the album cover to the animated film, the band’s exploration of the late 1960’s fashion can be seen in Stella McCartney menswear collection, in the presence of flamboyant prints and straight long coats.

Uncertainty as to whether the young Queen of France really did declare, "Let them eat cake," but one thing is for sure, she is the oldest example of fashion marvel. Satin, lace and feathers were the selection of materials utilised in Versailles fashion and its splendour is the trend that keeps making a comeback, as evidenced in the Marc Jacobs show.

Better known as the it-girl that came straight from Andy Warhol’s The Factory studio, Edie Sedgwick was instantly recognisable with her pixie-cut blond hair and being garbed in boat-necked shirts and jumpsuits. Michael Kors spring 2019 features floral dresses, lace tops and city-girl flair that were very much Sedgwick’s signature.

Notes from the style book of former First Lady Jackie Kennedy would be well-tailored skirts, trench coats and cocktail dresses that are effervescently presidential. Chic femininity with an arty intellectual vibe were the themes for Miu Miu spring 2019 collection, following Kennedy’s admiration for modern dresses.
