Every year, the fashion world looks forward to the definitive show of French sophistication that is the Chanel couture presentation. Creations that come forth steer the way women dress throughout the year, and for spring 2017, Karl Lagerfeld celebrates femininity by emphasising on amplified silhouettes, the iconic power suit and delicate textures.

From star spotting to close-up details, we round up key moments of the show:

 Star troopers

In true Chanel couture reputation, star power was strong on the catwalk, with fan favourites like Bella Hadid, Arizona Muse and Kendall Jenner sporting Lagerfeld’s stunning pieces. More fashion glitterati like Caroline Maigret and Park Shin Hye were spotted among the audience.

The theme of ‘crazy femininity’ inspired the models’ looks and outfits. Hair was slicked back in low ponytails, and makeup, a tinge of coloured lipstick, bold brows, and sculpted cheekbones. Lagerfeld based his spring couture creations upon classic tweed suits; played up with iridescent tones and curved tulip skirts, and gowns in silvery silhouettes; heavily embroidered and volumised.

“I wanted the girls to look like walking fashion drawings. And I must say, I love feathers!” Lagerfeld was quoted by Vogue. Joining feathers as a key feature were lots of sequins, metallic thread and glitter, piecing together flattering and dazzling dresses. Suits took on a very 80s-inspired look in the form of structured shoulders, pleated details and fitted waistlines.

With Lagerfeld, you can always expect a little surprise. Emerging from the cloud of glamour, the pinnacle of the show was Lily-Rose Depp’s grand finale. The Chanel bride wore a blush pink gown with a cascade of ruffles for the final look, and accompanied Lagerfeld as he took his final bow.
