TAG Heuer pulled off a double launch this week with the official release of the TAG Heuer Connected smartwatch at the grand opening of a brand new store in Suria KLCC. The Connected, which was launched last November in New York, is the result of a collaboration between TAG Heuer and Intel while it runs on Google’s AndroidWear interface.

A step in a new direction for the 156-year-old Swiss watchmaker, the Connected brings together the best of TAG Heuer’s craftsmanship and technological advances of the smartwatch industry. Made from strong and lightweight grade 2 titanium, the watch sports a 46mm sapphire crystal screen and a textured rubber strap with a titanium buckle. The changeable straps come in seven colours: black, white, red, blue, orange, yellow and green.

TAG Heuer’s design aesthetics carry on into the software with three specially designed watch faces that are inspired by TAG Heuer’s Carrera collection. The three faces are the chronograph dial, the 3-hand dial and the GMT dial, all of which display the date and are available in a black, deep blue or pearl white. Staying faithful to their actual Swiss made watches and paying extra attention to the fine details, the digital watch faces reproduce the shadows under the hands and the sunburst effect of the light.

As an expansion, users can download special new dials inspired by TAG Heuer’s brand ambassadors including Cristiano Ronaldo, Tom Brady and Jeremy Lin.

Behind the dial, the Connected runs on an Intel Atom processor with 1GB of RAM and 4GB of memory. It’s compatible with Android 4.3 and above as well as iOS 8.2 and above. TAG Heuer also claims the watch has a full day of battery life that can be recharged with a magnetic charger. The watch is also rated IP67 which makes it water and dust resistant. Running on AndroidWear, users will get to use the full dearth of Google applications including Search, Maps as well as Gmail and Translate.

With an offer only a luxury watch brand could provide, owners of a TAG Heuer Connect will receive a two-year warranty with the opportunity to exchange the watch for a mechanical Swiss Made Carrera watch at the end of those two years for an additional price.
