Melissa Lam and Daryl Foong

Weddings are without a doubt one of the biggest days in a woman’s life.

For exactly that, Melissa Lam made sure that every aspect of her beautiful wedding to Daryl Foong reflected who she is as an individual.

We saw it at the dinner banquet that boasted unmistakably Oriental décor as a reflection to her Chinese roots as well as the wedding cake that was made into the Chinese character for ‘double happiness’.

The same extended to her dress, a custom design by Enya Soo of Lis Bridal.

“I wanted my wedding dress to reflect my personal style, so princess gowns were out of the question since I did not want something over the top,” she tells.

On the big day, she walked hand in hand with her new husband into the wedding hall donning a stunning mermaid gown that perfectly accentuated her slim, lithe figure. Detailed embroidery with the sheer back and long train injected it with a subtle 'wow' factor.

She shares more of what it took to create it.

A destined meet

Melissa crossed paths with Enya by complete random chance.

“I wanted a dress with a rustic feel much like Anna Campbell's style but I hadn't quite found 'the' dress after looking around. I also wanted one done locally what with the multiple fittings (and my big appetite). I bumped into a friend at an event and was recommended by her to see Enya. She had designed a dress that had this beautiful back detailing – which got me saying yes.” (swipe left for next page)

Beauty in the details

She made sure to work closely with the designer because she wanted to have a personal touch to the dress she would be getting married in.

“The design has a lot of personalised intricate embroidery on it, from the front to the back, right down to the train, which I felt was special. We looked at different colours and cuts that would suit me best – it was a process by elimination. Since I already had an A-line ivory dress for my wedding photoshoot, a bareback dress for the tea ceremony in addition to the multi-generational kua, we decided on a mermaid silhouette which felt both sexy and comfortable.” (swipe left for next page)

A unanimous yes

At the end of all the work, she wasn’t the only one in love with the result.

“My mum took one look at the dress at my first fitting and was all for it. She also had her gown made with Enya after that! The end result is a champagne gown that felt classy yet down-to earth because I also wanted something in a colour other than the traditional white. Most of all, the sweeping train had a very ethereal feel to it. I was very happy with how it turned out."
