Ask any bride and she'll tell you that the wedding dress is undisputedly one of the most important aspect of the wedding.

For Vivian Lau, her LM by Lusan Mandongus dress is doubly meaningful as it is also one of her husband-to-be Daniel Lim’s wedding gifts to her.

“I planned my wedding around significant memories of our journey as a couple,” tells the new bride who recently tied the knot in not one, not two, but three lavish receptions. “My dress is a gift from my husband when we first got engaged. I can’t think of a better dress to wear while walking down the isle.”

It may have been a gift but it was she who picked it out, a process that was nonetheless very strenuous.

From Pronovias to Rosa Clara

She went through the most iconic names of wedding dress designers before finding her match in Lusan Mandongus.

“I tried on many different dresses by various designers including Pronovias and Rosa Clara. I also considered tailor-making one from scratch based on my own concepts and ideas. Then I chanced upon this lace number by LM by Lusan Mandongus at Designer Bridal Room here in KL and it was love at first sight. It wasn't hard to decide on it after that because it complimented my body shape the most.”

Transformable wonder

She immediately placed an order for one custom-made to her size and it would be another half a year before she received it.

“It took so long because it is hand-stitched in Hong Kong. It’s got a classic boat neck with French lace and a mermaid  silhouette. Beads are handsewn on to the French lace appliques from the bodice to the train. It’s got an illusion neckline that extends all the way from my collar bones and shoulders to my sleeves. What I love most is the detachable train at my waist, a special design by Lusan Mandongus.”

Pretty with pearls

On her big day, she paired the masterpiece with a set of pearl jewellery gifted to her by her parents.

“On top of pearls being timeless and elegant for any occasion, those I wore were gifts from my parents. I think they were the perfect match as before and after the wedding, the overall look still made me catch my breath. The dress carries so much memories now from my preparation for the wedding to everything that took place on the real day. I hope I can pass it down to my daughter in the future.”
