Tatler GMT gets on a video call with the CEO of Bell & Ross to get a better understanding on how its iconic square watches have evolved over the years

The BR 01 was the square watch that launched Bell & Ross to worldwide fame. Debuted in 2005, the shape—a square case with a round dial and four screws—was inspired by the instrument panel of a fighter jet, complete with highly legible numerals. It was a hit upon its release and quickly became a Bell & Ross icon.

Recognising its potential, the BR 01 went from a sizable 46mm to the BR 03 in a wrist-friendlier 42mm. Since then the BR 03 has undergone various permutations, experimenting with new materials and complications.

The BR 03 got even smaller last year, from 42mm to 41mm, and the new size was introduced in a collection of eight references. The new dimensions call for an update of its internal engine too, a new automatic movement with a robust 54-hour power reserve. The French-Swiss brand most recently released the BR 03 Gyrocompass that pays tribute to its aeronautical origin with the silhouette of an airplane on the dial.

Speaking from the Bell & Ross headquarters in Paris, CEO Carlos Rosillo gives a deeper insight into the evolution of the BR 01 and BR 03.
