What is micellar water and why it’s good for you

3 things: Soothing, moisturising and no rinsing required.

Makeup is great – nay, brilliant – for helping us feel like a million bucks even on days when we’re a little out of it but the removal and cleansing process, not so much.

There are specific removers for eyes and lips on top of the cleansers for the face. Once removed, you’ll need to follow up with toning, moisturising and for some, extra serums to help skin repair and renew to take on a new day of makeup again tomorrow. Even with the latest beauty gadgets made to minimise effort, it’s still a lot of work.

What if we told you that process can easily be condensed all into a single step with a thing called micellar water?

First popularised by the French, micellar water is soft water loaded with micelles – aka tiny balls of cleansing oil molecule – that naturally attract dirt and oil. This allows it  to draw out the impurities from your skin and dissolve all makeup without harsh chemical reactions that can risk drying and wearing skin out.

The absence of alcohol and other drying chemical agents  also makes it perfect for use around the sensitive eye area. The simple formula of the solution leaves skin to balance out its own oil levels and get softer, brighter and improved overall with prolonged use.

Best bit? No rinsing is required after use so you can head straight to bed after a long day at work or a night out partying.

Intrigued? Here are some of the most popular options out there.
