For his latest project, the legendary Japanese fashion designer focuses his avant-garde lens on a Big Bang timepiece

It comes as no surprise to anyone familiar with the work of Yohji Yamamoto that he would choose Hublot's Big Bang All Black when it comes to a watch to put his stamp on. Known for his voluminous avant-garde designs dominated by the colour black, the All Black collection is based on the ethos, "invisible visibility", where time-reading is rendered almost inconspicuous due to the enveloping dark hue.

The Big Bang GMT All Black Yohji Yamamoto, a limited edition of 50 pieces, features tone-on-tone black complete with a micro-blasted black ceramic case and a smoked sapphire crystal in a darker shade. Incidentally his signature appears at 6 o'clock on the crystal.

The GMT function was chosen because Yamamoto is based in both Paris and Tokyo. The second time zone can be adjusted easily with the push of a button, thanks to a proprietary module in the HUB1251 movement. "Moreover, the hours are 'invisible'. As a person who isn’t always forthcoming, I find that highly amusing," he says.

The new watch was created to commemorate the opening of the new Hublot flagship boutique in Chuo-dori Street, Ginza, Tokyo.
