It’s all about fashion this month. Chin Poh Nee speaks to five stylish ladies who are on the rise in the social scene, to find out what makes their wardrobe tick.

Yap Po Leen
The youngest child of Datin Barbara Yap and Dato’ Yap Teiong Choon certainly embraces her youthful charm by moulding her personal style in a more daring way. Yap Po Leen loves her dresses – “My whole wardrobe is full of dresses!” says the petite-framed lady as she refers to her collection of clothes.

But make no mistake, she is anything but overly girly. “I don’t like them to be too sweet. They have to be a bit edgy in a way, not too girly,” says Po Leen. Mostly, her style has been constantly evolving. If previously she had only settled for a good dress as an outfit, now Po Leen experiments with different shoes and accessories to bring an edge to the whole look.

Her go-to shoes? Basics from Stuart Weitzman, dressy heels from Saint Laurent and edgy, chunky platforms from Stella McCartney.

Kim Raymond
When Kim Raymond walked into Raw & Rustic Concept Store, our on-set location, she exuded a quiet but cool aura. It could have been the elegant black outfit she was wearing which contributed to such a demeanour, I thought at first.

However, only after talking to her did I realise the sweet and shy personality hidden behind such an appearance. Regaling to us tales of her style adventures, the only daughter of Dato’ Jeffrey Raymond laughs as she confesses, “I won’t say my style is always very nice! I like experimenting with every aspect of fashion, like my hair and not just my clothes.”

Currently, Kim has an obsession with the Chanel espadrilles. “I wear them almost every day,” she confesses. “I think I may have over eight or nine pairs of the espadrilles. They’re really comfortable and they go well with every outfit I wear.

Nadia Anwar Tan
While most girls painfully endure the struggle of walking about in heels and breathe a sigh of relief the moment they swap them for flats, Nadia Anwar Tan is one rare breed who lives in heels, so to speak!

“I actually can’t wear flats anymore because I’ve been wearing heels for far too long to even think of changing!” she laughs as she professes her love for heels.

In fact, when she was walking around in a pair of flat sandals once, she ended up hurting her feet. We say, stick to heels! The rest of her style is every bit as high class as her high heels. Although she prefers to pick functionality over impracticality, Nadia doesn’t scrimp when it comes to style. “I won’t wear boring, working attires to work,” she says firmly.

Sophie Kamaruddin
It was the dawn of a new era for Sophie Kamaruddin when she traded in her long locks for an edgier, shorter hairstyle two years back. “I always thought I havea very round face... by cutting my hair, I now have nothing to hide behind,” says the Bloomberg anchor-woman.

This turn of events also meant that this young lass now has a boosted confidence to pull off her short and sassy haircut with just the right fashion style.

Thankfully, her work place did not limit her from trying on new and fashionable styles. In fact, it expanded her thoughts on fashion. “The good thing about working in Bloomberg is that you’re not a stereotypical person on air,” says Sophie.

Scha Alyahya
Actress, television host, CEO of an upcoming multi-brand store, a wife and a mother—with so many roles to juggle, we’re pretty impressed that Scha Alyahya has gotten it all together and managed to look so good while at it.

Citing model Cara Delevingne and superstar blogger Chiara Ferragni as her style icons, Scha chalks up her personal style to be one that is minimalistic—simple and comfortable.

“It’s a style that will forever be me. I’ve always been the simplest girl in my circle of friends,” says the mother of one.
