Shareen and Siti, the darling duo behind Siti Li Dining, are zealous when it comes to keeping their family recipes alive, which includes Siti's cekodok or deep-fried banana balls. Roughly the size of glass marbles, the teatime treats are smaller than what you'd typically get elsewhere, but crunchier, and dangerously easy to snack on as one would with popcorn.
"Malay recipes so varied from region to region, family to family, and hand to hand," said Siti. "Maybe this is why it's so tricky to pen a cookbook on Malay food culture. For our cekodok, we use a mix of bananas; Cavendish bananas alone would make the batter too powdery."
A small bowlful of Siti Li's famed cekodok costs RM15 whereas a dressed up 'cake' will set you back by RM75. Ramadan special: Priced at RM50, takeaway boxes of cekodok are available for pick up between 4.30-6pm.

A non-halal option, the siu yoke or crackling pork 'cake' at Aunty Q Recipes (based in Penang) and Elsie's Kitchen (based in Petaling Jaya) are bound to please fans of porcine dishes.
Aunty Q charges between RM58-196 depending on the number of guests you need to feed (from 5 to 20 pax), whereas each platter from Elsie's Kitchen is charged by the weight (RM18 for every 100 grams) and served with dipping sambal on the side.
