The new trailer features the return of the original cast of the movie franchise and Slimer, the mean green ghost

The highly anticipated direct sequel to the original Ghostbusters movies (the new film ignores the all-female reboot directed by Paul Feig in 2016) has released a second trailer that features familiar characters like Annie Potts' receptionist Janine Melnitz as well as Slimer. The trailer also shows the original cast, namely Bill Murray, Dan Ackroyd, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson, through an old photograph and an old video footage. At the end of the trailer, a man picks up the phone and starts speaking, the voice presumably belonging to Ackroyd's Ray Stantz. Another original cast member, Sigourney Weaver, is also reportedly returning in a cameo.

Like so many films, it was delayed from its original 2020 release date because of the pandemic, and is now confirmed to hit US theatres on November 11, 2021. The original Ghostbusters is hailed one of the greatest comedies of all time, and if you're as excited as we are to see if the new film lives up to this legacy, here's what else you need to know about the potential blockbuster.

The Director

Jason Reitman is not only directing, he also wrote the screenplay with Gil Kenan (Monster House). If the name sounds familiar, it's because his dad, Ivan Reitman, directed Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II. Jason is an accomplished filmmaker in his own right, having directed Juno and Up In The Air, both of which he was nominated for Oscar Best Director.

The Cast

The new cast is led by Paul Rudd, McKenna Grace, Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things) and Carrie Coon. Coon plays single mother Callie who moves her children (Grace and Wolfhard) to a farmhouse in Oklahoma she inherited from the children's grandfather, Egon Spengler (one of the main characters in the original film played by the late Harold Ramis).

The Plot
