Find out how Afiq M gave an edgy twist to Zaireen Ibrahim's classic suit dress for Tatler Ball

The first time Zaireen Ibrahim saw her Malaysia Tatler Ball dress at Afiq M's studio in Sungai Buloh, her eyes lit up and she immediately gave it a thumbs up. "I've always thought that Afiq is a very talented designer. His style is minimalist, elegant - very much the style I usually go for," exclaimed the corporate communications director of L’ Oréal Malaysia.

The white dress suit with textured lapel is understated yet sophisticated but Afiq was concerned that it might be too simple for a glamorous soiree. To give it an extra oomph but without compromising on Zaireen's insistence that it not be "overpowering", Afiq created a obi-like corseted belt in black.

Working with Zaireen is easy because she’s the perfect fit for the brand, Afiq M – very minimal, classic and edgy.

“I'm having a lot of fun working on the dress because suits are one of my favourite things to do," says Afiq. On the night of the ball, Zaireen told us that she was very happy with the final outcome. "It's very me," she enthuses. "I wear a suit all the time, so this is a different interpretation of a suit - how you can wear a suit as a dress. Afiq captured my style really well."
