From record-breaking feats to refreshed old favourites, it was yet another great day at Baselworld. Here are 10 that stood out from the crowd.

1/10 Rolex Oyster Perpetual GMT-Master II

After last year’s GMT-Master II in Oystersteel case with “Pepsi” red-and-blue bezel, the new GMT-Master II appears with a bezel in black and blue. In case you’re wondering, the double tone on the 24-hour bezel is an astute way of separating daytime and nighttime for the second time zone indication. This Rolex is endowed with the new generation calibre 3285 fitted with the patented Chronergy escapement that gives it 70 hours of power reserve.

2/10 Bulgari Octo Finissimo Chronograph GMT Automatic

At 3.3mm thick, Bulgari's Octo Finissimo Chronograph GMT Automatic is the thinnest mechanical chronograph movement in the world. Impressively, this technical feat is accomplished with the addition of a GMT function where the home time is indicated in the 24-hour sub-dial at ‘3’. The case, dial, strap and deployant buckle are in black sandblasted ceramic, a high-tech material that the brand claimed may have finally reached its absolute thinness for a perfectly functioning watch.

3/10 Patek Philippe Ref. 5520P-001 Alarm Travel Time

Patek Philippe introduces a new complicated automatic movement that combines a two-time zone function and a 24-hour alarm with a classic gong. The black sunburst dial is packed with valuable information for the jetsetter. Besides the central local and home time display, there’s the alarm time aperture at ‘12’; right below it is the alarm day/night indicator. The large sub-dial at ‘6’ displays the date. The case is platinum, and it is Patek Philippe’s first chiming watch with a water-resistant case.

4/10 Hublot Big Bang Scuderia Ferrari 90th Anniversary

Hublot’s longtime partner, Scuderia Ferrari, is celebrating its 90th anniversary this year. To remember this milestone, Hublot has created three limited edition watches. All three measure 45mm in case size with ceramic carbon bezel and powered by the Unico flyback chronograph. There is the platinum model with a dial that recalls the old speedometers with lemon yellow accents. The second model features a carbon case with a design that reflects present-day Scuderia Ferrari, complete with a strap in fire-resistant Nomex, a material used to make the race driver’s suits. Last but not least is the sapphire case model with Kevlar fabric strap.

5/10 Chopard L.U.C Flying T Twin

Meet Chopard’s first watch with a flying tourbillon, a grand complication that is characterised by an absence of the upper bridge so that it appears to be floating. To better showcase this gravity-cancelling spinner, Chopard has given it an ultra-thin 40mm case in Fairmined rose gold, a dial with a snailed motif chapter ring and a central medallion with honeycomb pattern, as well as rose gold hands and markers.

6/10 TAG Heuer Autavia

More than 30 years after it ceased production, the rally racing-inspired Autavia makes a welcome return. The revival comprises seven three-hand models in 42mm stainless steel case. It also boasts bi-directional bezel with a 60-minute scale in ceramic or stainless steel. The smoked dial comes in black, grey or brown, with interchangeable calfskin strap or steel bracelet. All watches come with an additional NATO strap. Another distinguishing feature is the oversized crown inspired by the pilot’s watch, a design that makes it easier to operate the crown with gloved hands.

7/10 Zenith Defy Inventor

The Inventor boasts a groundbreaking oscillator that beats at an unusually high frequency of 18Hz. Developed entirely in-house, this regulating organ is made from silicon that is impervious to temperature changes and magnetism, and thus offers better stability and reliability. Limited to 500 pieces, it is housed inside a 44mm titanium case with a bezel crafted of Aeronith, an aluminium polymer that is three times lighter than titanium.

8/10 Tudor Black Bay P01

Based on a prototype for the US Navy in the 1960s, its distinguishing feature is the hinged end-link system that incorporates a locking and unlocking system for the bi-directional rotating bezel to facilitate maintenance. Then there is the crown uncommonly positioned at ‘4’. Water-resistant up to 200m, it is endowed with a COSC-certified automatic movement with silicon balance spring housed inside a 42mm case with satin finish.

9/10 Jacob & Co. Epic x Chrono Carbon Bugatti

Celebrating its new partnership with Bugatti, Jacob & Co. has created a limited-to-110 pieces chronograph with a dial that features the French flag colours in a nod to the automaker’s heritage. The 47mm case is composed of black DLC titanium Grade 5 and forged carbon, with a sapphire caseback emblazoned with the words “110th Anniversary” to coincide with Bugatti’s age this year.

10/10 Oris Dive Control Limited Edition

Boasting a 51mm titanium case coated in black DLC, this professional dive watch is incorporated with the Oris-patented Rotation Safety System that secures the uni-directional bezel during a dive. The 60-minute counter at ‘12’ is the most crucial display underwater, which is why the markers and numerals are in yellow, a colour that remains visible underwater. Superluminova coating on them enhances their legibility in murky conditions. Production is capped at 500 pieces.
